Whiskeys Quicker is a Valley-based rock cover band launched in 2011 by sports media personality Dan Bickley. Bickley is best known for his biting commentaries in The Arizona Republic and azcentral.com. Hes co-host of Bickley and MJ on XTRA 910-AM, twice voted best sports talk show in Arizona. His work and opinions are often featured on Ch. 12 News. But music has always been one of his passions, and this band is fulfillment of a lifelong dream.
Bickley first recruited Joe Palma as lead guitarist. Palma has played professionally in Los Angeles, jamming with some of the biggest names in the industry. He likes to travel the world. He likes big bowls of Chinese food. He likes to remain mysterious.
The band took wing when the guitarists landed Gabe Lugo, a thunderous drummer and Performing Arts teacher at
Apollo High School. Lugo lives in Glendale, and when not molding minds of young musicians, he cheers for Arizonas sports teams and drinks really good beer.
The band was completed by two additions from another Valley rock band, Phat Bastard. Lead Vocalist and Frontman Steve Palanca covers a variety of song styles, from those demanding a very high vocal range to the guttural growls and howls that can scare small children. For the past 10 years, he has performed all over the Valley, from clubs and pubs to opening for classic rock monsters such as Bad Company. Steve is currently studying Exercise and Wellness at ASU in Phoenix.
Whiskeys Quicker is completed by bassist Nick Ippolito, a 25-year veteran of the Valley music scene. Nick resides in Mesa, runs a machine shop, Argo Blue Precision, he opened in 2007 and is cool enough to wear sunglasses indoors.
Whiskeys Quicker specializes in classic and alternative rock, covering Godsmack, Alice in Chains, Billy Idol, Journey, AC/DC and Queensryche.
