 Hyena Suite was formed in October of 2001 and was originally called Discharged. Discharged contained Tom and Anthony on the guitars, Chris on bass, and Tim on drums. They started out, writing songs quickly and with determination. They got whatever shows they could, as offered to them by friends, and as replacements for bands that didn't show up at shows. After a while, they slowly gained popularity and started getting bigger shows. In April 2002 Discharged recorded their first demo, entitled "Chicks Won't Buy It." Throughout the rest of the year they played more shows. In September 2003 Chris left the band, and Tom played bass to replace him. Tim's brother Andy was recruited to play the other guitar. For this new arrangement, Discharged changed their name to Hyena Suite. The second demo, "Discharged," named after the band's old name, was recorded and released to the public in November of 2003. In April 2004, the band decided that Andy was not what they were looking for and he left the band. That June, Tom, Anthony, and Tim went to Los Angeles and recorded 23 of their songs. These were not to be released all at once, but over time.
